Checks Marks the Spot

Never one to deliver the predictable, Richard Nicoll's womenswear designs for the AW11 Laurel Wreath Collection are a clash of patent leather and wool, oversized dresses and tailored shirting. Whilst many designers have looked to the swinging 60s for inspiration this season; Nicoll has steered clear of candy-pop colours and taken the collection down a richer route, playing with dark sherry and deep marine blues and looking to the less obvious Parisian Beatniks of that decade for inspiration.

Whilst the soft Breton striped jerseys typically associated with French fashion feature in the collection; the key pattern for this season is a dark sherry check, set against shades of blue, biscuit and vanilla. Woven in wool and printed across pure silk, this signature check is a striking offset to the collection's textured angora knits and sleek patent leather. Favourites include the checked wool Harrington jacket (above right) which is perfect worn with pieces from within your own wardrobe - try teamed with a simple fitted shirt, slim cut trousers and vintage penny loafers for a modern take on the 1950s Teddy Girl.

Richard Nicoll's AW11 Collection for Fred Perry Laurel Wreath is available at FredPerry.com and in our Laurel Wreath Collection shops now.

Then and Now

The September edition of Dazed & Confused magazine includes a full page shot featuring Fred Perry styles from the year 1991 alongside our AW11 Laurel Wreath Collection.

Then Now

The special edition 'Time Warped' issue looks at the highlights from the new season's collections, as well as a retrospective of the best of those from 1991. Shot by photographer Kacper Kasprzyk over 60 pages; the image of the two Fred Perry looks side by side showcases how we continue to build on our heritage styling season after season.

Welcoming the Great Outdoors

As our designated concept space, the Fred Perry shop at Spitalfields has been through many incarnations of late. Completely refurbished to fit each theme, the shop has played host to new collections and special guests alike; with the recent Peter Blake launch event and last year's secret Amy Winehouse show both taking place at the store. With the arrival of the new season, the Spitalfields shop has been transformed once more - this time into a woodland space to celebrate the outdoor and hiking inspirations of the accessories and footwear styles within.

Key styles include the Foxx Twill D Rings Shoe, with brushed silver hiking D rings in place of traditional eyelets, and a multi-pocket waterproof rucksack. The shop itself has been re-skinned with real silver birch branches, thick logs and wooden sign posts to complement the soft suedes, rich leathers and vintage styling of the footwear and accessories. Well worth a look - especially if you can visit on a Thursday when Spitalfields hosts its weekly antique market, showcasing a wide variety of hidden treasures and oddities.
