Fred Perry are pleased to welcome Porte Monnaie to our Friends of Fred selection for Autumn; an on-going project that looks to British labels and craftsmen that share our appreciation of the design and making processes, along with a particular attention to detail. Port Monnaie specialise in the creation of handcrafted wallets, combining both innovative and traditional materials and a minimalist approach to design, that results in a unique and considered product. Three exclusive designs have been produced especially for Fred Perry, including the Tipped Wallet, offering a playful take on our traditional tipped shirts.

Founder and lead craftsman Nick Bond studied menswear design at London's Central St Martins, before taking an interest in the construction of lightweight, functional accessories. 'Porte Monnaie' literally translates to 'purse' or 'wallet'; with Nick's designs taking an almost architectural blueprint that is reminiscent of traditional origami shapes. The clean lines and precision applied to each wallet reflects Nick's own personal taste, with his live-work studio nestled in East London a perfect example of this aesthetic. The sky-lit space is neatly dressed with artfully stacked shelves and a wooden work bench, set against a back drop of carefully compiled mood boards, paints, pots and brushes.

What makes Porte Monnaie wallets so special is the truly manual process of their production. The backbone of the wallet is produced using flash spun high density polyethylene fibres; a cutting-edge material that has a paper like tactility and is fully recyclable. Each design is hand printed or painted and takes a week to dry before being finished using locally sourced russet leather. Though the construction of each wallet is a delicate process, the unique fabrication is surprisingly strong, making these handmade wallets ideal as gifts or investment pieces.

Once complete, every wallet is carefully wrapped in Porte Monnaie tissue paper and presented in a black card box with a gold embossed lid.

Following on from our post on the Re-issues Harrington Jacket, this week we're taking a closer look at another piece from the collection: the Textured Knitted Shirt. The two button tipped shirt is a Fred Perry staple, and this cotton blend style offers a heritage feel with its waffle knit finish, reminiscent of the crimplene styles available in the 1960s.

Available in classic navy or maroon colour options, the textured knitted shirt has a slim fit and features all our most iconic styling details; including a twin-tipped flat knit collar, self-colour twin stitched hem and two button placket.

An embroidered Laurel Wreath badge has been referenced from our archives and applied to the chest, completing the timeless appeal of this shirt. Layer under the collection's Harrington jacket or team with a smartly tailored single breasted raincoat for a streamlined look.

We recently launched a small selection of Re-issues online and in our Laurel Wreath Collection shops, celebrating some of the most iconic styles from our 60 years of streetwear heritage. A key piece from this collection is the Harrington jacket - a timeless outerwear style lined with red Stewart tartan and still made in the United Kingdom to this day.

Taking its name from the character Rodney Harrington from 60s US drama Peyton Place, the Harrington jacket has been adopted throughout the decades by stylish men ranging from Steve McQueen to Blur's Damon Albarn. The Re-issues Harrington Jacket is available in traditional black and navy colour options, and features a two button funnel neck, buttoned pockets and a zip down front. The jacket has a classic fit, with elasticised cuffs and hem offering a smart, streamlined look.

Champagne Laurel Wreath embroidery adds a finishing touch - layer the jacket over an Original Fred Perry Shirt or team with a soft merino knit in colder months.

It's the attention to detail that makes this jacket so special - hidden zip pockets sit on the inner lining and pocket flaps can be turned inwards to expose a flash of the tartan trim. Each zip pull is engraved with our signature Laurel Wreath, buttons are branded and the back neck label inspired by archive designs.
